Auditions to be held for: "A Christmas Story"
Sunday, October 2: 2:30 pm *** Sunday auditions will be held at SS Peter and Paul Church, in the lower level***
Monday, October 3: 7:00 pm; at the Grand Opera House
Everyone’s favorite Christmas story (excepting the original, of course) comes to life on Pierre Players' stage December 1-3 and 9-11, 2011. Jean Shepherd’s popular 1983 movie "A Christmas Story" set in 1938 in Hohman, Ind., was adapted as a play by Philip Grecian in 2000. The stage version loses none of the charm of the original as the audience revisits main character Ralphie’s ninth Christmas through the eyes of a much more mature Ralph who takes the audience down memory lane as the onstage narrator.
We follow Ralphie in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree for Christmas. Ralphie pleads his case before his mother, his teacher and even Santa Claus himself, at Goldblatt’s Department Store. The consistent response: “You’ll shoot your eye out.” All the elements from the beloved motion picture are here, including the family’s temperamental exploding furnace; Scut Farkas, the school bully; the boys’ experiment with a wet tongue on a cold lamppost; the Little Orphan Annie decoder pin; Ralphie’s father winning a lamp shaped like a woman’s leg in a net stocking; Ralphie’s fantasy scenarios and more.
There are parts for four adults, seven children and various other children as extras. For more information, contact director Lee Ann Smith at 224-1838 or assistant directors Nancy Baker at 224-7017 or 222-0655 or Kathleen Currey at 945-1097.
