Pierre Players Community Theatre enriches, educates and entertains central South Dakota by engaging volunteers and audience members in the process and product of quality theater. Pierre Players is a place for everyone. Flat Building Workshop poster

Flat Building Workshop

DATE: December 11, 2021

On Saturday, Dec. 11, Pierre Players will hold a flat building workshop at 10 a.m. CST at the Grand Opera House. The workshop will be led by Scott Hipple, who has built numerous Pierre Players’ sets. Volunteers will replace the canvas on 10-foot flats used for set construction. Volunteers are also needed to help with other maintenance at the Grand Opera House, such as organizing the paint room, re-numbering audience seats and rows, and painting the Encore Room/Box Office. Upcoming Auditions: Making God Laugh

AUDITION DATE: December 13, 2021

"Making God Laugh" is a dramatic comedy that follows one typical American family over the course of 30 years’ worth of holidays. Starting in 1980, Ruthie and Bill's grown children—a priest, an aspiring actress and a former football star—all return home, where we learn of their plans and dreams as they embark on their adult lives. Auditions will be held on Monday, Dec. 13, 2021, 7 p.m. at the Grand Opera House. There are roles for three males and two females. Silent Sky poster

Silent Sky

PERFORMANCE DATE: December 10, 2021

Join us for a one-time, special performance of the play "Silent Sky" by Lauren Gunderson on Friday, Dec. 10, at the Grand Opera House. The performance is part of the South Dakota Discovery Center's Learning for the Universe Celebration of the Webb Space Telescope Launch. Special features of this performance include a star show using the Discovery Center's latest technology, hands-on activities about the Webb Space Telescope and a discussion about Henrietta Leavitt, women in science and the Webb Space telescope.

Doors for "Silent Sky" open at 6 p.m., with special displays in the the Grand Opera House Box Office (Encore Room). The performance is at 7 p.m., with a discussion following the show. The performance is supported in part by a grant from the South Dakota Humanities Council and in partnership with Pierre Players Community Theatre.

You hear it every Christmas on KRRC's radio station; now "A Prairie Christmas" is coming to Pierre. Open your heart and step up your holiday spirit with this family-friendly performance. Jeff Gould takes the stage at the Grand Opera House on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021, to combine stories, memories, nostalgia and everyone's favorite Christmas music to delight folks of all ages. Sponsored by KCCR, "A Prairie Christmas" features Gould with renowned composer, pianist and singer Dan Schwartz.
